Institut für Technik und Bildung, Universität Bremen

The Institute Technology and Education (ITB) is a research institute within the University of Bremen with a staff of more than 60 employees, 50 of whom are faculty and research staff. It is one of the leading research institutes in vocational education and training and runs its research committed to the idea of shaping the triangle of work, technology and education. The ITB aims at a close connection with the reform of vocational education and training as well as innovation in the field of work and technology. Therefore, not only an interdisciplinary but - in times of globalisation - also an international research-approach is necessary. For that reason educators, engineers, sociologists, economists and specialists from several other disciplines are engaged in the research of the ITB, which often is embedded in national or international networks.

The ITB covers a wide range of research and development projects on a regional, national and international level. Most projects are run in co-operation with industry and other VET institutions. In addition, the ITB acts jointly with relevant institutions in Europe, the United States, China, Thailand, Japan and several other countries. The institute’s particular expertise lies in the field of qualitative methods and in the assessment of competences acquired in the work process. These qualitative methods are sensitive of occupational domains and based on criteria of professional work.
